Michael E. Contreras, MD, FAAD is a Board-Certified Dermatologist since 2005. During his many years as a sought-after dermatologist, he has refined his skills in medical, surgical, and aesthetic dermatology. Practicing in Denver since 2010, he was invited to join Core Dermatology in 2021, and he is thrilled to be working alongside his friends and colleagues in their thriving, esteemed office. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
Dr. Contreras completed his dermatology residency at the University of New Mexico in 2005. He has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals, and he has contributed a chapter to a dermatologic surgery textbook. He has also had the opportunity to lecture at national and international dermatology meetings.
Dr. Contreras received his undergraduate degree in 1996 from the University of Southern California in biomedical and electrical engineering and graduated with the distinction of summa cum laude. He returned to Albuquerque for medical school and graduated in 2001 as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honor society and received the Faculty Award for Excellence.
Following his residency training, Dr. Contreras stayed on faculty as an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the University of New Mexico, where he introduced cosmetic procedural training to the residency program and trained residents at the Veterans Administration Hospital. He is committed to educating physicians about dermatology and maintains an active teaching role for resident physicians in the community. He has more than 16 years’ experience in cosmetic procedures, including injectables and many different laser treatments. He has served as an aesthetic injectable trainer for Galderma, teaching optimal filler and toxin injection technique to others.
Dr. Contreras takes pride in giving patients the compassionate care and exceptional results they deserve. Establishing a welcoming and open environment, he wants patients to feel like partners in their care. When out of the office he finds time for skiing, tennis, playing guitar, watching soccer, and trips with family and friends.
